Jason Jessie Emerson Herron

Jason (Jessie) Emerson Herron (1900 - 1984) was active/lived in California, Colorado.  Jason Jessie Herron is known for Art-deco public sculpture.

Starting in 1925 and extending through the 1940's, Jason Emerson Herron was among the leading women sculptors of California.  She was especially active in Southern California during the WPA era, and her Art Deco style sculptures can be found in many public buildings and monuments.  With her colleague, Henry Lion, [1900-1966] she created the Art Deco figure, Power of Water for Lafayette Park in Los Angeles.

Herron was born in Denver, Colorado in 1900.  After earning her degree from Stanford University, she studied at the Academie Colarossi in Paris.  She also studied at the Los Angeles County Art Institute, the Otis Art Institute, the University of Southern California and privately with Merrell Gage and F. Tolles Chamberlin.
